“A writer wanders. And a once-lost story finds a home.”
Robert Benson
* “Not all who wander are lost.”
J.R.R. Tolkien
These are quotes that I ran across, strangely enough, just a few weeks ago, long after I set up this site.
When I set up this page, I was thinking about all the times my husband asks me what I am thinking and I relate the story that was playing in my head. It usually starts out with the words or thought, “I wonder what would happen if…” and then my mind travels with the story and the characters who inhabit it. I play through scenarios in my head and sometimes laugh out loud at some outrageous statement by an imaginary person, while I am standing at the stove stirring spaghetti sauce and ignoring the pot of noodles boiling over. That’s when my husband enters, to turn down the heat under the overcooked noodles, and ask me where I have wandered off to.
I spent a lot of time, when I was younger as a reader, and now that I am older as a wanderer and an amateur writer. I hope to someday be good enough to be published, however the journey that includes reading, wandering and writing is not a loss, but a life enriching adventure. My mind will wander, my stories will find a home, my reading will make me a better writer (that’s the hope) and my family will be fed, more or less.
Anyone else wander? Wonder? Write?
